Kildare Home Repair and Maintenance (Athy & Clane) Starts November 2025

Are you interested in learning skills in home maintenance & repair?

If so this is the first step on your journey. 

This course is free of charge and is fully funded by County Kildare Leader Partnership

The course runs over 2 weeks

• Week 1 consists of self guided online learning that you complete at a time that suits you
• Week 2 consists of in house practical training

The programme aims to develop learners key skills and understanding in home maintainance & repair

Mandatory successful completion of online modules ( is required prior to practical training)

Covers:

• Plumbing
• Tiling
• Hand & Power tool use
• Basic electrical skills
• Plasterboard & wall preperation

COURSE CONTENT OVERVIEW:

• Identify and work with domestic plumbing fittings, materials, and components
• Identify and work with various domestic electrical cables, wire plug tops
according to correct colour codes, install and connect socket outlets, light
switches, and light fittings, and apply safe electrical working practices
• Repair and prepare surfaces through filing and sanding, and apply
plasterboard installation techniques
• Develop advanced tiling and surface application competencies, including
using precision tools, applying adhesives/primers/silicons, and achieving
professional tiling finishes.
• Develop efficient and effective repair strategies and implement sustainable
and cost-effective maintenance solutions
• Proficiently use various hand and power tools and understand tool
maintenance and care.

On successful completion of the course you will be issued with a City & Guilds 5546 Employability Skills Level 1 award. (5546-01)
